Heldt History

John Jourdan Heldt and Marguerite Virginia Walton were both born in Evansville Indiana, where they were Married (1946) at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Five of their children (John Jay, Nicholas Walton, Rebecca Faith, Marguerite Louise, and Angela Hope) were born in Evansville. Their sixth child (Janet May) was born in Fort Worth. Marcella Bosse Heldt, their last child was born in San Jose.

By way of explanation, John Jourdan Heldt was a second lieutenant in WW2. His BSEE was conferred by Evansville College (1949), Courtesy of the GI Bill. In 1951 he was recalled to active duty and sent to Korea. Here he served as a First Lieutenant Combat Engineer for 14 months. When he returned to Evansville he went to work for the company that makes all of the Sears Roebuck freezers and refrigerators, but by now he knew that he was an itinerant worker. . . or as called in California, a "Prune Picker"! John Jourdan Heldt always insisted that he was a "Plum Picker" as he moved his family to Texas (where he got his MSEE From Southern Methodist University), then California, stopping to pick plums at General Dynamics (Ft. Worth), Lockheed (Sunnyvale), GTE (San Carlos), Ampex (Sunnyvale), Memorex (Santa Clara) and Watkins-Johnson (Palo Alto).

All of our children except Angela Hope still live in California. Her husband, John, flies "stand by" for Northwest, out of Hawaii.

The rest of the kids are closer at hand with: John Jay in San Jose; Nick in San Francisco; Becky in Campbell; Peggy in Los Gatos; Janet in Los Gatos (her home location is about half way to Santa Cruz in the mountains to the north of highway 17) and Marcella in Los Gatos.
